The Susquehanna County Historical Society, established in 1890, offers an extensive museum collection, as well as a genealogy and local history research library.
The Susquehanna County Historical Society formed in 1890 to collect and preserve historical records and artifacts of the county. By 1907, the Society and the local public library joined as the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association to build a permanent building which, today, houses both the historical society and the public library.
The Society offers a Museum with permanent and temporary exhibits of portrait and landscape paintings, furnishings, textiles, Native American artifacts, and medical, military, and surveying items.
Our Research Library is the primary resource for Susquehanna County history and genealogical material on Susquehanna County families. Included are family files, census records, cemetery records, local newspapers, wills, deeds, tax records, marriage licenses, manuscripts, published genealogies, and local, New England, Pennsylvania, and New York histories.
The Society's research library may be used for free by members and students. Non-members may use the research library for a daily fee of $10.00 per person. The Society's museum may be toured for free during our regular business hours.
The mission of the society is to support the appreciation and preservation of local history, provide a safe and permanent place for the collection and preservation of the history of Susquehanna County and the genealogy of Susquehanna County families.
